going seventeen | svt's got talent

overall ranking

premise:

seventeen are given a random role to play in a talent show, and if they laugh, they receive a shock.

comments:

after watching the newest ad-lib episode, high society, i found myself accidentally praising svt's got talent a lot and was wondering if svt's got talent was as good as i remember. IT IS.

i don't know what it is about the early rendition of gose, but there's a reason why the show has become such a big hit. i found myself missing the old gose editing style quite a bit -- the creation of memes like tasty, or, in this episode, ~not spicy~, happened by design. it's a shame that i feel like after this year, you don't get visual gags and effort like the paper jeonghan's holding constantly saying "none" to show how he's making things up on the spot, or the quick cuts to emphasize how things have been edited out with dino's shameless magician act. even the ?? sound seems like it's been phased out lately. it feels like the editing has taken such a backseat compared to other parts of the production design in making gose funny, which is a double edged sword. thankfully, the minimal concept of this episode means that the editing and the members joking around work hand in hand to make this a great episode, which isn't always the case.

ranking:

concept: 7; it's simple! a lot of the work that makes this episode funny is actually done in post

chemistry: 9; minghao's "annyeonghaseyo yeorobun!" is always stuck in my mind, as is hoshi's "faster than everyone else" and seungcheol desperately clutching his shoulder

enjoyment: 10; goated!
