going seventeen | wonwoo's diary
premise:
seventeen improvise as part of a skit where wonwoo documents a village preparing for a national singing competition. most notably, the going seventeen introduction of pi cheolin, dino's middle-aged alter-ego, who debuted during caratland.
comments:
i won't even lie i always zone out a bit during the skit episodes because as for concept, there usually isn't one aside from a basic 'this is what you're doing' and 'this is your role,' following which, the going producers step back and allow chaos to ensue. i do like the more involved and exciting episodes of gose, which is why i prefer watching it over every other seventeen content point blank (still have never seen in the soop or nana tour btw). however, wonwoo's diary is probably the episode that made me rethink this.
i remember trying to watch wonwoo's diary when it first came out but dropping it because of the reasons above, but of course the drought has me going through episodes i haven't seen before, including this one. man was i missing out. mind you i (for some, re)watched all the pi cheolin gose episodes and then his debut album is announced, so trust i get the hype. svt go on about how there's so many made up characters in gose that it's hard to keep track of but knowing this one is the one that introduced pi cheolin... i fear the characters in this one are the most iconic, and no other characters in any other gose episode (not even god of light music, imo) come close! even more than just pi cheolin, there's pi dubaek (who i fear has fallen by the wayside.. i do miss him), jo eulho (who i hope made his big break), ha sungin (who gave us the wonderful image that is jun walking around in that alien suit) and my personal favorite minghao as yoo danja (giving us the iconic watermelon break and minghao's excited YEAAAHHHH!!). i fear it's an episode that just has to be experienced. it's such a simultaneously bare-bones and out-there concept that just fits weirdly well with the gose catalog. truly a gem!
ranking:
concept: 6.5; i lowkey will give all skit episodes around this rating because the concept is much lighter on the production team and shifts a lot of the weight over to the members
chemistry: 8; holy crap way better than i was expecting
enjoyment: 7; for reasons above
overall - 7.2/10
