going seventeen | let's go home
premise:
seventeen participate in games to decide whether or not they can leave early
comments:
if i'm interpreting correctly, this episode seemed to get a lot of hate from carats because it involved the staff members participating in the games teaming up with the members, and people made the argument that they're fans of the members, not the production crew. and like. i see that. i get where they're coming from, especially since actual members were barred from playing the games in this episode precisely because of that reason (vernon was backseating the entire time while joshua kinda sat there, and then in 10 minutes they were gone).
however, it's always very sweet to see the members appreciating their staff since they're a huge part of why going seventeen has continued to be fun and entertaining throughout the years! along with insomnia zero and going vs. seventeen, i think they deserve appreciation too, and people are a little too harsh in that regard.
in terms of concept in general, i think if they kept everything the exact same, including the staff members leaving with the teams they had decided on, but with the games just being left to the members, this would probably be a top tier episode. i liked seeing the members play these games! they're actually pretty good picks. this is kinda a happy marriage of christmas in august and everything possible in the white zone, with the coveted reward that made the guest who left secretly and insomnia zero so entertaining -- getting to leave work (gose) early. and it's a double edged sword because it's literally a reduction of screentime, even if it's a happy ending for the members, but this was very entertaining even for just the sheer amount of content we get anyway. picopark and overcooked are very entertaining games, especially when it's seventeen playing, and we get to see backseating seungcheol make a comeback. PLUS, spoilers we get to see jun get ragebaited a ton and he ends up in last place and gets WAY more screentime than is typical of him. it's like the evil version of jun's winning sports day. people forget that he's like the 2nd biggest gamer in the group behind wonwoo. man, this episode would've been so good with wonwoo in it.
ANYWAY THAT'S ALL GOOD EPISODE

chemistry: 8; i love seeing the members getting ragebaited by the game
enjoyment: 7; decent and kept me hooked even as the members trickled away.
