comments:
so i did start a summer internship on the 23rd of june... which is why i have not ranked a gose episode since then...
i watched this one some time ago! i thought i hadn't seen it before but i'm pretty sure i had ...? if not the whole thing then most of it, because i wasn't sure of the ending, since i could recall the premise but not how the teams or the winner would end up. SPOILERS jeonghan wins a macbook, which is kinda a crazy result?!?! i feel like this is one of the biggest gose prizes they've given aside from a hanwoo beef dinner once... it's kinda fun watching the alliances form in this game and seeing how people flip flop - a highlight for me was watching dino betray one group for another, but the team dynamics in this one were really no joke. watching wonwoo's team form and fold under the realization they can't win, seeing all the underdogs, including hoshi, after that unbelievable (in both a good and bad way) first bid, team up, adding onto the "he has to be here to transfer the money himself" hair-pulling nail-biting moment, and all the pressure-filled auctions themselves?! absolute cinema.
and i had to go back and skip around the video to remember the ending and the result (the only part i actually rewatched for more than 3 seconds was the ice cream sponsor mukbang at the end - which, for as corny as it is, was still really cute), but the fact that i remembered this much of this episode says a lot about it in and of itself, i think. it's truly a memorable concept (Even if i thought it was a bit ... redundant? at times... i feel like while knowing the painting's price does lend to strategy, things would have been a lot more funny if they were unknown to everyone but one person who 'owned' the painting and would profit to raise the price, but who would lose money if they bought their own painting - and yes i am actually just talking about the jackbox game). and half of that is the way the game played out with just how fun it was seeing teams discuss against each other. however, due to the nature of the game, alliances were inevitable, and once it just became a game between two teams, things did fall a bit flat compared to the initial 2-3 small teams and one huge team of underdogs. even still, i had fun! above average ep i would say.
ranking:
concept: 8; a bit flawed, but still makes for lots of fun!
chemistry: 8.5; team dynamics are in full swing, and even the quieter members get a good kick out of being part of the teams (there is literally a designated team for the quieter members to discuss how they will win! and even if they don't get as much screentime as the usual variety show-primed members, i feel like all members get a decent word in here)
enjoyment: 7.5; decent!
overall - 8/10
