going seventeen | BOOmily Outing

overall ranking

premise:

an installment into the series of seungkwan's retro show episodes, jun and the8 act as 'homeowners' asking the members to do chores while they are away, participating in the daily life like those living in korean villages.

comments:

4 whole installments!!! the gose production team got so much bang for their buck here! and, surprisingly enough, none of it felt wasted. each and every episode here actually felt jam-packed with funny moments. not a single moment of dead air -- there was genuinely that much content that it felt like a waste to remove it!

i will say, the strawberry picking game does feel like a completely different episode from the rest. i'm not sure if a game before settling at the home is something common in the show family outing, but it reminded me a lot of dang-dang-gam-che, an episode from way back in 2019(?) where they milked cows. not that it wasn't enjoyable, but it just felt random when it preceded and was meant to set up 3 episodes of seventeen in a house together.

speaking of, i feel like despite being a parody, this was definitely one of the more successful 'svt daily living' episodes. it felt surprisingly earnest compared to more self-aware episodes like truman show, but more structured compared to episodes with less programming like how the pack rests. there are some really great moments throughout each and every episode that really showed off each member's personality while still feeling genuine! everyone shocked finding out the grocery team had already spent over a million korean won on food and everyone backseating hoshi's cooking in part 2, back-to-back joshua-style love shot choreographies (the dagger game is always fun to watch for seventeen) in part 3, and woozi remembering jun and the8's song on the first try and immediately heading back to bed in part 4, this episode just felt perfect in terms of my personal preference.

sidenote, i love the incorporation of jun and the8 into this episode. i always love seeing how the8 and jun are always continuing to prioritize their brotherhood with seventeen despite having separate schedules, and the way they naturally felt incorporated into both the concept and the games themselves in this episode, as well as how the members obviously wished they were there, felt so fun.

ranking:

concept: 9; one of the best utilizations of a parody concept in going seventeen, by far

chemistry: 8; all episodes missing members are going to take a hit, but i feel like this one, especially, missed jun and the8 the most. i hope we can get a boomily outing 2 with them as well!

enjoyment: 9; the gift that just kept on giving, something i definitely see myself returning to for comfort.

overall - 8.6/10
